What's a Stepmother?

While buying some Christmas cards at the BYU Bookstore, I saw this little sign for a card for a stepmother-

"Stepmother: Like a Mother."

Now I know! I was kind of wondering about that one. I guess Ishould have noticed they both contained the root "mother," but sometimes I miss those sorts of things.

In any case, I wish you all (all 3-4.5 of you?) a happy, fail-free Christmas!

Penguins are Mammals?!

Here's a screen capture I did earlier this year of an MSNBC article about penguins washing ashore in Brazil... but the article's subtitle shows a severe lack of science knowledge! They fixed it the next day, but it looks like someone needs to go back to school: "Hmm... Feathers? Check! Wings? Check! Beak? Check! Lays eggs? Check! Dances, surfs, and marches? Check! Sounds like a mammal to me!"

(Yeah, I know this isn't BYU-related, but a mistake like that deserves to live in infamy!)

Cultural Knowledge Fail

A friend of mine passed on this coversheet to a student composition (with all names removed to protect the student's identity, of course):

Now, this may not seem too strange, except that that pyramid is Chichén Itzá, a major MAYAN pyramid. Now, perhaps this doesn't seem too obvious, but if it's for a college assignment, don't you think it's a bad mistake to make?

Merry Christmas Fail

Courtesy of a recent BYU Police Beat:

Nov. 26: Residents of Wymount terrace reported suspicious people walking around wearing masks. Police discovered the individuals were caroling and said they did not consider the concern wearing masks might cause.

Makes sense to me. I always make sure to get that extra mileage out my Halloween mask by reusing it for Christmas...

Two-Face Goes to BYU?!

The Student Honor Association plays on our deep, dark fears of Two-Face in this, one of their many amazing(ly cheesy) posters. Every time I wake up and think about skipping my morning shave I remember this poster, and it helps me to whip out the old razor. Because we all know that first its not shaving, tomorrow its this:

Maybe it's no coincidence that Aaron Eckhart is a BYU grad... (cue creepy background music)

Of course, the average BYU student would find no Two-Face as horrific as this one:

Poetry Fail

This week the Daily Universe published the "Best of Police Beat: Fall 2008." It's kind of like Cops, but there isn't a faux-reggae intro song. Or much crime going on either. Oh, and the BYU Police Beat is actually entertaining. But other than that, they're exactly the same.

You can click on the above link, but I thought I'd point out one of the best from the best:

Oct. 25: BYUPD received a phone call at 7:49 p.m. reporting loiterers at the gazebo at the Alumni House. Upon arrival, police discovered a group of students composing poetry.

Of course, perhaps we need to call the police when we see budding young poets trying to sharpen their teeth. I've heard those literary types can be quite subversive. Plus, gazebos give me the heebie jeebies.

Headline Fail (the first of many, I'm sure)

Ah, the Daily Universe, that eternal fountain of headlines that bring about enlightenment (either that, or they just make you say "duh").

HBLL Bathroom Fail

Eternal bathroom construction can lead to some awkward bathroom gender reassignments.
